MS Dinner of Champions Raises Record $320,000 - $56,000 More Than It Raised in 2006

STAMFORD, Conn. On Thursday, Nov. 8, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter hosted the 29th annual MS Dinner of Champions at the Stamford Marriott Hotel in Stamford, Conn., raising more than $320,000 $52,500 over goal and $56,000 more than that raised in 2006.

The chapter recognized, with one of its highest awards, Bruce Tobin, executive vice president of Simon Property Group located in New York, N.Y. Tobin, a resident of Stamford, Conn., received the 2007 MS Hope Award. This award is presented to individuals exhibiting extraordinary community leadership and support for improving the quality of life for Connecticut residents.

DOC FollupThe chapter also recognized Walt "Clyde" Frazier, formerly of the New York Knicks NBA basketball team, with the J. Walter Kennedy Memorial Award. This award is in recognition of the extraordinary accomplishments of gifted athletes and their championship teams. These champion athletes also demonstrate what can be achieved when exceptional talent is combined with perseverance, courage and teamwork on the field.

Armen Keteyian, chief investigative correspondent, CBS News, served as master of ceremonies. The evening featured a cocktail reception, live auction and silent auction followed by dinner and an awards ceremony.

Funds raised through events, such as the MS Dinner of Champions, ensure ongoing scientific research to find a cure and the continuation of vital programs and services offered by the chapter to Connecticut residents diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS).

"The evening was a huge success," said Lisa Gerrol, chapter president. "I want to thank Terry Walsh, who headed up this year’s MS Dinner of Champions committee. It is only through the dedication of our event committee, our hard-working staff, our steadfast partners and gracious contributors that we were able to go above and beyond our original goal for this prestigious community event."
