ESPN’s Howie Schwab Offers To Go Head-To-Head With You!

Bid Online To Secure Spot As Contestant

HARTFORD, Conn. Howie Schwab, ESPN’s sports trivia guru and star of Stump the Schwab, is now prepared to go head-to-head with the area’s self-proclaimed sports trivia know-it-alls and maybe that’s you!

SchwabIn partnership with the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter and in support of the more than 6,000 Connecticut residents battling the potentially debilitating effects of multiple sclerosis (MS), Howie Schwab will host a local version of his national broadcast where local sports fanatics and couch potatoes alike can compete against one another in the quest to prove to the guru they know it all. The Stump the Schwab game show will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Wallace Stevens Theater at The Hartford in Hartford, Conn., at 7:30 p.m. A V.I.P. reception featuring an open bar will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Game show tickets are $25 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under. Game show V.I.P. tickets are $50 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under.

"I am really looking forward to the Stump the Schwab night at The Hartford," said Schwab. "It is going to be a fun opportunity for fans to compete for great prizes. We will also have time to discuss the world of sports, plus I will provide an insight into life at ESPN. I have a close friend who has MS. I am pleased to help raise awareness and funds for a great cause, the fight against MS."

Schwab joined ESPN in August 1987 as a freelance researcher and in April 1988 was promoted to staff researcher. In 1991, he was named manager of the research department. In 1995, he was named coordinating producer, ESPN.com, which included handling the day-to-day management of the site and coordinating its editorial content. Schwab, star of Stump the Schwab, is coordinating producer, studio production, a position he has held since January 1998.  His responsibilities include SportsCenter, ESPNEWS and ESPN radio, as well as providing statistical content to Dick Vitale (both online and for game telecasts). His role includes involvement at the ESPY Awards, ESPN-The Weekend, and the NFL and NBA Drafts. Schwab also serves as a weekly contributor to ESPN’s First Take as the "Couch Potato", informing fans of what sports to watch on weekends. He also has appeared as a regular chat guest on ESPN.com, and on ESPNEWS.

Game show candidates wishing to compete and test their sports trivia knowledge must bid for a spot online by visiting www.ebay.com, keyword MS. Online bidding for contestant spots begins in October. There are eight available positions. The grand prize includes an exclusive tour of the ESPN facilities in Bristol, Conn., and lunch on the ESPN campus with Howie Schwab.

The event includes a silent auction featuring coveted sports memorabilia, an authentic ESPN banner signed by 20 on-air personalities and more.
